All You Need to Know about Official Photocard

Photocard is a must-have item for a fan of K-Pop and now we will learn how to differentiate between official vs unofficial photocard so you don’t waste your money.

Hello, back again with me! Before I tell you the differences between official and unofficial photocards, let me tell you first about what is photocard just in case there are newcomer people in this world of K-Pop.

What’s an Official Photo Card?

Official photo cards are cards which has a picture of the artist. Official photo cards are usually made by the artist of the official company. They have a label on them which makes them official cards and these cards can’t be copied.

Official photocard is actually a bonus item for purchasing a K-pop idol album. However, there is currently a trend of collecting idol PCs so many fans are taking advantage of this momentum by involving these PCs in buying and selling transactions.

K-pop fans conduct photocard transactions in two ways, namely selling or exchanging. Usually, fans will open their stalls via Twitter by including the hashtag #WTS (Want to Sell) if they want to sell them, or they can also use the hashtag #WTT (Want to Trade) if they want to exchange them with PC collections from other fans.

Meanwhile, before spending some money to buy a photocard of your favorite idol, make sure of the authenticity of the item first. Because nowadays, there are many parties other than agencies that trade these items freely.

Apply the following 4 tips to distinguish between official and unofficial photocards so that you are not deceived by irresponsible parties. Let's immediately see the full details here.

1.    Check the DOT position

PC collectors have more knowledge to check whether the item is original or made by another party. Well, to distinguish this you can check the position of the DOT. For those who don't know what DOT is, the definition of DOT refers to the remaining part formed due to the process of separating the photocard from the paper at the factory.

The location of the DOT contained in the official photocard is naturally formed and points outward. Meanwhile, for unofficial photocards produced by Chinese or South Korean sellers, the DOT position seems to be forced inward and seems unnatural. So, don't forget to check carefully!

2.    Compare the thickness of the photocard

The thickness of each PC is usually difficult to distinguish, as many sellers outside the agency use the same type of paper so the thickness also looks no different. But if measured more carefully, the thickness differs by a few millimeters.

3.    Observe the shape of the pattern

Photocards are printed on special paper that has a different texture and pattern from other types of paper. To find out the shape of the pattern, you can take a picture using a camera and then zoom in on several parts until the paper pattern appears.

Official PCs have a hexagonal / pentagon-shaped pattern, some official PCs also have a rhombus-shaped pattern and also zigzag lines. Meanwhile, the paper pattern for unofficial PCs is generally a regular long line or looks like dots.

4.    Pay attention to the photocard cutting results

The official photocard cutting results are of course neater and the details look perfect. When compared to unofficial photocards, the difference is very clear. The unofficial PC is more curved and less symmetrical on each side.
